Tobacco Free Sarpy (TFS) is a coalition of health-related organizations, educational and community groups and individuals. Created in 2001, TFS was formed to strengthen tobacco control efforts in the Sarpy County community. Since then, the coalition has taken the lead within Sarpy County to address tobacco related issues through public education and awareness.

TFS’s goals are to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, reduce health disparities related to tobacco in Sarpy County, reduce youth access to tobacco and reduce tobacco use within Sarpy County. TFS meets every third Thursday of the month at Alegent Health Midlands Hospital located at 11111 South 84th Street in Papillion.

The tobacco industry loses - and must replace - some two million consumers each year, either because they quit smoking or die. Studies have shown that the majority of new consumers will come from the ranks of young people. The tobacco industry spends $13.4 billion each year on advertising and promotion - $75.8 million of that is spent in Nebraska alone.
